Polar Heart Rate Sensors

Chest-strap accurate HR, ECG, PPG, and HRV from Polar H10, H9, OH1, and Verity Sense

Overview

Omnio connects directly to Polar chest straps and optical sensors over Bluetooth LE — no Polar Flow cloud round-trip. Captures beat-to-beat RR intervals for research-grade HRV, single-lead ECG (H10), PPG waveforms (OH1, Verity Sense), and 3-axis accelerometer data. Supports guided HRV sessions with real-time RMSSD, SDNN, and frequency-domain metrics.

How the integration works

Polar devices do not expose their data through a cloud API — the H10, H9, OH1 and Verity Sense stream samples over Bluetooth LE and that is it. Omnio wraps Polar's official SDK in a React Native native module (PolarSdkNativeModule) and speaks that protocol directly from the mobile app, so pairing is a one-time BLE handshake rather than an OAuth flow. The SDK exposes beat-to-beat RR intervals (the gold-standard input for RMSSD, SDNN and frequency-domain HRV), single-lead ECG at 130 Hz on the H10, PPG waveforms on OH1 and Verity Sense, 3-axis accelerometer, and respiratory rate derived from RR intervals. Multiple sensors can be paired simultaneously — for example an H10 for training and a Verity Sense for overnight sleep — and each device is tracked independently with its own connection state, battery level and freshness indicator.

What Omnio adds on top of Polar Heart Rate Sensors

Polar's own app, Polar Flow, shows each workout and session in isolation and is strongly weighted toward their own devices. Omnio is where the Polar signal becomes a longitudinal data asset: RR intervals flow into composite recovery and readiness scores alongside Oura, Garmin and WHOOP, and because Polar H10 is closer to lab-grade than any wrist wearable, Omnio uses it as a reference and flags cross-device disagreements rather than silently averaging. A morning guided-HRV session on an H10 that disagrees with the overnight Oura HRV shows up as a reconciliation prompt, not a silently corrupted trend. Workout HR feeds training load, cardio compliance and ACWR; single-lead ECG is stored for retrospective review; and the AI chat assistant can answer questions like "show me every H10 session where HRV dropped more than 10 ms after a hard run this month" — something Polar Flow cannot do.

Metrics We Sync

  • Heart rate (1 Hz and beat-to-beat)
  • RR intervals for HRV analysis
  • Single-lead ECG @ 130 Hz (H10)
  • PPG waveforms (OH1, Verity Sense)
  • 3-axis accelerometer
  • Guided HRV sessions (RMSSD, SDNN, LF/HF)
  • Workout HR zones & duration
  • Device battery & connection quality

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Polar sensors are supported?
Omnio supports Polar H10 and H9 chest straps, plus Polar OH1 and Verity Sense optical arm sensors. H10 uniquely streams single-lead ECG; OH1 and Verity Sense stream PPG waveforms. All four provide beat-to-beat RR intervals for HRV analysis.
Why use Polar instead of a wrist wearable?
Chest straps and optical arm sensors are more accurate than wrist-based optical HR, especially during exercise and for HRV. Omnio uses Polar data as a gold-standard reference and automatically prefers it over wrist HR when both are available.
Do I need Polar Flow?
No — Omnio connects directly over BLE, so Polar Flow and Polar Beat are not required. You can still use them in parallel if you want Polar's own analysis.
Can I run guided HRV sessions?
Yes. Omnio includes a guided HRV protocol that captures a 5-minute paced-breathing session and reports RMSSD, SDNN, LF/HF, and respiratory sinus arrhythmia in real time. Useful for morning readiness checks and training autonomic balance.
Can I pair multiple Polar devices?
Yes. You can have multiple Polar sensors registered — for example an H10 for training and a Verity Sense for sleep. Omnio tracks each device independently with its own freshness indicator.
Does Polar data feed composite scores?
Yes. Polar RR intervals feed the HRV-based recovery and readiness scores, and workout HR data contributes to training load and cardio compliance calculations alongside Garmin, Oura, and WHOOP.
